Village Voice: "Grown-and-sexy" (posted 08.21.2008)
The Village Voice offers up this preview of our 8/22 show at Bowery Ballroom:Gotham has a credible, classic rock n' roll sound, after decades of drought, courtesy of eclectic string-slingers like Band of Thieves' Peter Smith. He's associated with a homegrown, honky-tonkin' New York circle that's finally been able to wrest this aesthetic template from Southern rock's long superior brothers and sisters. Dig "Woman" and it's quite clear Smith and his band have re-inserted skillful heavy-hard tension into meandering New Rock City. We'll be shaking our moneymakers come Friday since Smith, comely front man Tyler Rann, and 'nem are the true definition of grown-and-sexy. With Your Vegas, Jupiter One, and Designer Drugs. CRAZY HORSE.

Band of Thieves: Woman
Band of Thieves wants to make sunny music for shady people, and with the ugly music that is out there today, its about time! Tyler Rann (vocals), Gitano Herrera (lead guitar), Anthony Riscica (drums), Leigh Nelson (bass) and Peter Smith (rhythm guitar) are the men behind the music and released and their first EP, Woman.
The title track Woman races about with upbeat and funky energy about a topic most men or women can relate, a man in love with a really bad girl Hey Hey has sexy, edgy guitar work, precise and clean. Ranns catchy chorus has me chanting //Hey Hey/ God youre looking good and you can flaunt it now// right along with him. The last track First Among Equals hints to the bands freedom rock and country influences.
Woman is a great preview of music yet to come from this group.

NYC bands on the rise: Band of Thieves
Band of Thieves is a rock quintet with a mission statement: make sunny music for shady people. The songs on their 'Woman EP' were recorded in two days during the fall of 2006 live at their practice space. What was captured in those few hours was first performed during the 2006 CMJ Festival at New York's Bowery Ballroom and at The Deli's and Ascap show a few weeks later. The few months since have seen sellout headlining concerts and performances at Mercury Lounge, the Cutting Room, Webster Hall and many others. It looks like the shady Newyorkers are embracing these thieves... If you are one of them, don't miss their next show at Mercury Lounge on May 11 at 9.30.

BAND OF THIEVES - WOMAN
Is that Freedom Rock man? You know a hit when you hear one, and "Woman" is a hit. Like a classic rock powerhouse that should spin next to BOSTON, AC/DC and BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE, New York's BAND OF THIEVES deliver this straight up groove that instantly gets your attention. Remember when songs were just fun and didn't have to be so deep and emo? This one has this kinda 'Welcome Back Kotter' meets THREE DOG NIGHT feel to it. The best song EDDIE MONEY never wrote.

The Deli Magazine (posted 01.26.2007)
The Deli Magazine:
"With fuzz toned guitars, three-part harmonies and some pretty frenetic drumming, Band of Thieves is new school band whose music is about as old school rock n' roll as Birkenstocks and the blues. As soon as the lead guitar gets going on the intro to "Woman", the listener is swept away in a wave of folk and R&B deja vu. At once, the group evokes a solo John Lennon, but once the vocals are set into motion, it's all about the Doobie Brothers. Complete with cool strokes, leather jackets and long, if not slightly more hipster hair, the deliciously retro Band of Thieves has a late 60's, early 70's approach to the music and before you know it, you'll be reaching for your favorite college keepsake-your bowl."
